Weightmans sets up Large Loss in London
Weightmans is to launch a Large Loss & Technical Claims
capability out of its London office.
The new London unit will be headed by partner
Elaine Chapman who is to relocate from the firm’s Liverpool
office.
Elaine, who has been with Weightmans since 1989 and made partner
in 2001, specialises in large loss and technical claims involving
for example severe brain injury, paraplegia and tetraplegia,
amputations and other severe limb injury cases. She has also been
championing the use of rehabilitation.
Partner and head of Weightmans’ insurance business line,
Dan Cutts commented:
“Elaine’s move is part of our Strategic Plan to enhance the
client offering in our London office. She is an experienced
and very competent lawyer.
”This is the first element of our strategy to build a strong
Large Loss capacity in London and we will be looking at senior
level recruitment in coming months.”

launch our Large Loss & Technical Claims unit in London.

“We currently undertake a significant amount of high value PI
work and this is an area we aim to expand significantly over the
next six months.”
In addition to Large Loss, Elaine has significant experience
with rehabilitation and cost capping work which will be a
significant focus moving forward.

has in recent months been building its presence in the London
insurance market and I plan to significantly build our client base
in the area of catastrophic injury.”
Elaine Chapman brings with her a significant case load and will
be joined by her an assistant, Tarek Uddin.
Last Spring, Weightmans bolstered its insurance and reinsurance
team with the appointment of partners Colin Peck and Ling Ong.
Colin joined from Lawrence Graham and advises London Market and
international insurers and reinsurers, Lloyd's syndicates, brokers
and run‑off managers on a wide range of insurance and reinsurance
disputes involving litigation, arbitration and mediation.
Ling joined from DLA Piper and specialises in complex insurance
and reinsurance litigation with particular expertise in policy
coverage disputes. She also has significant experience working with
Lloyd’s syndicates, London and international market companies at
both direct and reinsurance levels.
